9/27

Objective:  SWBAT calculate the force of gravity between two objects that have mass.

Warm Up:  Draw a free body diagram for the following circumstances-

A spacecraft taking off from Earth that is still within Earth's atmosphere and it is accelerating.
A spacecraft firing its engine and accelerating in space.
A spacecraft moving at constant speed in space.
A spacecraft landing gently on the surface of the moon.

9/26

Objective:  SWBAT draw and interpret  free body diagrams.

Warm Up: Draw a free body diagram of a ball rolling down a hill.

9/25

Yesterday and today are lab days.  Yesterday we did the Constant Force and Constant Mass labs on Newton's 2nd Law.  Today you will be broken into one of two groups that will design and carry out a formal lab on the relationship between force and acceleration OR mass and acceleration.  You will be using fellow classmates on roller skates to perform the experment.

9/24

Objective: SWBAT explore the effects of changing force on an object and mass of an object on that object's acceleration.

Warm Up: Choose a group of NO MORE THAN 3 students to work with. Make sure you are working with someone you haven't worked with so far this year (failure to follow these directions will result in a 10 point deduction in your lab's grades.  Pick up one white lab handout and one yellow handout PER GROUP.  As a group, preread the instructions on both lab handouts.

9/21

Objective:  SWBAT calculate the weight of an object and distinguish this from the object's mass.

Warm Up:  What is your mass?  What is your weight on Earth?  What is your mass on the moon?  What is your weight on the moon?  Use correct SI units, please!

9/20

Objective:  SWBAT understand the concept of inertia and how it relates to motion.

Warm Up:  Get into a group of 2 or 3.  Pick up the lab handouts.  Answer the pre-lab questions.

9/18

Objective:  SWBAT review for tomorrow's test on 2 D kinematics

Warm Up:  Determine what is happening to the objects motion based on the signs

                      v                              a
                      +                              -
                      -                               -
                      -                               +
                      +                              +

9/17

Objective:  SWBAT solve problems involving 2 D kinematics.

Warm Up:  What variables do you know at ymax that are usually not stated in the problem?

Thursday, September 13, 2012

9/13

Objective:  SWBAT perform an experiment to determine the effect of the angle of the launch of a projectile on its range.

Warm Up:  Pick up one lab handout.  SILENTLY pre-read the lab.  Write (on the bottom of the front page of the lab) a one sentence summary for what you are testing in Part A and another sentence summarizing what you are testing in Part B.

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

9/11

Objective:  SWBAT demonstrate their knowledge of 1 D physics on an exam.

Warm Up:  Pick up your scantron.  Green side today!  Get out a calculator and pencil.

Date:  9/11/12
Subject:  1D motion

Monday, September 10, 2012

9/10/12

Objective:  SWBAT review for tomorrow's test on 1 D kinematics.

Warm Up:  Get out your homework and your kinematics worksheet.  A hiker hikes 360 m at 15 degreees before turning and hiking 700 m at 250 degrees.  What is the total distance traveled and final displacement of the hiker?

Friday, September 7, 2012

9/7

Objective:  SWBAT determine the motion of an object in free fall.

Warm Up:  A flower pot falls off a 20 m high balcony.  How much time elapses before it hits the ground?  How fast is it going when it hits the ground?

Thursday, September 6, 2012

9/6

Objective:  SWBAT understand and quantify the motion of an object in free fall.

Warm Up:  What "causes" gravity?  In what direction does gravity act in general?  How does this differ with the direction of gravity on Earth?

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

9/5

Objective:  SWBAT solve 1 D kinematic problems using the 4 basic kinematic equations.

Warm Up:  Describe the motion of the graph on the board in sentences.

Tuesday, September 4, 2012

9/4

Objective:  SWBAT understand what dispacement, velocity, and acceleration represent in motion and to interpret motion from dva graphs.

Warm Up: List the positive directions and the negative directions.  How can an object with a negative velocity speed up? (Give you answer in terms of displacement and acceleration.)
